Splunk’s own pages do not agree on how to stay certified
The general certification overview page says you can stay current by “pursuing additional certifications, completing continuing education courses or re-taking your certification exam every three years.” Three routes. But the dedicated Recertification Policy document — the one that actually governs renewal — names exactly two: pass a higher-level certification exam, or retake your current one. Continuing education does not appear in it as a qualifying route.
We are not accusing Splunk of hiding anything — both pages are genuinely theirs, and the overview page may simply be unrevised marketing copy. But if you are planning three years out and counting on continuing-education credits to avoid a second exam sitting, budget instead as if the policy document is the one that binds: assume you will retake or pass a higher exam, and treat anything else as a pleasant surprise.

Who it is genuinely worth it for
- You already administer Splunk day to day. The exam maps onto work you are already doing, and certifying it costs one exam fee if you already hold Power User.
- You are the one Splunk deployment owns internally. A stated, checkable qualification is useful leverage when you are the only person who understands the indexers.
- Your employer or a partner programme requires it. Then the worth-it question is really a timing question.
Who it is not worth it for
- You have not touched Splunk’s configuration files. This is not a conceptual exam; it tests recognition of specific configuration behaviour under a tight clock, and that is hard to fake.
- You only use Splunk as a search-and-report analyst. That is closer to what Power User certifies. Admin is aimed squarely at the person who runs the platform, not the person who queries it.
- You are budgeting for one exam, not two. Power User is a required prerequisite, not optional reading — factor in the full $260 before deciding.
Where practice questions fit
Practice questions are for two things: building exam-day pace, and finding the gaps you do not know you have. They are not a substitute for the official blueprint or for hands-on time in a real Splunk instance.
A word of caution on where you get them. A large share of the results for this exam are “dump” sites claiming to host real exam content. Using those breaches Splunk’s exam agreement and puts your certification at risk. Questions written from the published blueprint are a different thing entirely — and they are the only kind worth your time.
