Splunk Enterprise Certified Admin (SPLK-1003): Verified 2026 Exam Guide

If you are weighing up the Splunk Enterprise Certified Admin exam, you have probably already found half a dozen pages quoting a passing score, an exam code and a set of domain percentages. Most of those numbers are not published by Splunk. Some are years out of date.

This guide does the opposite. Every figure below is traced to Splunk’s own certification pages, checked on 12 September 2026. Where Splunk does not publish something, we say so rather than repeating a number we cannot source.

Splunk Enterprise Certified Admin exam facts: 56 questions, 60 minutes, $130 per attempt, about 64 seconds per question

About that passing score

You will see 70%, 75% and 80% quoted confidently across the web. Splunk publishes none of them. Their certification pages give the question count, the duration and the fee, and stop there.

The practical response is to stop optimising for a threshold nobody can verify. Aim to score consistently in the mid-eighties on realistic practice questions and the actual cut score becomes irrelevant. Anyone who tells you the precise number is guessing, and it is worth asking what else on that page is a guess.

The number that actually matters: 64 seconds

Fifty-six questions in sixty minutes is roughly 64 seconds per question — and that is the single most useful fact about this exam.

It reshapes how you should prepare. This is not an exam you reason your way through from first principles. There is no time to mentally reconstruct how the indexing pipeline handles a props.conf setting, or to work out precedence between a forwarder and an indexer by deduction. You either recognise the configuration and answer, or you flag it and move on.

Two things follow from that. Practise under a timer from the start, not in the final week — untimed practice teaches a pace that will fail you. And build recall of specific configuration files and their precedence rules, because recognition is fast and derivation is not.

Still need Power User first? Core Power User practice tests. Planning ahead to Architect? Architect practice tests.

You cannot skip Power User

Splunk lists Splunk Core Certified Power User as a prerequisite for the Enterprise Admin certification. Budget for two exams, not one, and plan the sequence accordingly.

Power User comes first; Architect is the step above Admin.

This also matters for budgeting. At $130 per attempt, the Power User and Admin exams together are $260 before any retake. Worth knowing before you start.

What the exam covers

Splunk describes the Enterprise Admin scope as the daily management of Splunk Enterprise: license management, indexers and search heads, configuration, monitoring, and getting data into the platform.

Note what is deliberately absent here: domain percentage weightings. Those live in Splunk’s downloadable test blueprint, not on the public certification pages. Rather than invent them, we point you at the blueprint — download it from Splunk’s certification track page and treat it as your syllabus of record. Any site quoting exact percentages without citing that document is filling in blanks.

In practical terms, “getting data in” carries disproportionate weight relative to how much study time people give it. Inputs, forwarder configuration and parsing are where most candidates lose marks, largely because the concepts feel simple until you are asked which configuration file wins.

Recertification: three years

Splunk certifications need renewing every three years, and there is more than one way to do it — pursuing a further certification, completing continuing education, or retaking the exam. Plan for the renewal when you plan the exam.

A sane preparation approach

  1. Clear Power User first. It is a prerequisite, and its content underpins the Admin material.
  2. Download the official test blueprint and use it as your checklist. It is the only authoritative statement of scope.
  3. Get hands on a Splunk instance. Configuration questions are far easier once you have actually edited the files.
  4. Practise under a timer, at roughly a minute per question, from the beginning.
  5. Track which topics you get wrong, not just your overall score. A 78% that is entirely weak on data inputs needs different work than a 78% spread evenly.

Where practice questions fit

Practice questions are for two things: building the pace described above, and finding the gaps you do not know you have. They are not a substitute for the blueprint or for hands-on time.

A word of caution on where you get them. A large share of the results for this exam are “dump” sites claiming to host real exam content. Using those breaches Splunk’s exam agreement and puts your certification at risk. Questions written from the published blueprint are a different thing entirely — and they are the only kind worth your time.
